Michigan Attorney General Office Sues Bay Mills Indian Community

Michigan attorney general office sues with a view to close the northern Michigan casino which is run by the Bay Mills Indian Community.

According to the federal suit the casino in Vanderbilt is fully illegal as it is located not on the Indian land. It is on the property Bay Mills (south of the reservation in the Upper Pennsylvania).

Last week the state sent a letter to Bay Mills with ordering to close the casino that has approximately forty slots. But the matter is that the officials of Bay Mills fully disagree with this ordering and still keep the casino open. In order to close this casino (opened in November), an injunction is needed.

Chairman Jeff Parker, Bay Mills Executive Council, stated that if his tribe were not sure that Vanderbilt operation is fully legal, casino wouldn`t have been opened. Moreover, he says that the tribe is absolutely prepared to defeat the position in the court.

Bay Mills also opened its casino in the Treetops Resort information center on the 3rd of November that had purchased on the 45.6 acres of land. Nowadays the casino has eighty-eight slot machines planning to add some more slots when everything will be completed.
