Slots Panel Plans
The state slot machines commissioners use lawmakers with a view to make some requirements loosen for the casino developers at Rocky Gap that is located in Western Maryland. The casino has proved to be the least attractive among 5 sites that were approved for gambling world of slots.
During the previous 2 years 2 requests for proposals drew not a single pretty qualified applicant for the site. That was done in spite of the fact that Maryland lawmakers had offered a break in tax levying last year to all developers who purchased golf resort (financially troubled) supported by the state.
On Tuesday Donald C. Fry, the slots commission`s chairman, stated that much more should be done this year in case if the state wishes to attract a new developer. The Slots Panel is planning to give the recommendations of some changes in the letter addressed to the legislative leaders because the General Assembly has to begin the session.
The proposals are the following:
- Allow applying of the resort`s purchase to the requirement of capital investment (25 million dollars per five hundred slot machines).
- Give the developer possibility to do the installation of slots at Rocky Gap without building a facility.
- Put the prohibition on the owners that have a 2nd Maryland casino.
- Do the waiving of three million dollars of the initial fee for licensing.
